Their is a tab superimposed on my task bar. The type is obscuring the lettering of my task bar characters, as though someone put graffiti on it. Could this have something to do with it? How do I get rid of it?

Thanks.

Please provide a screenshot of what you are talking about.

The Taskbar is at the bottom of the monitor, while tabs are near the top of the Firefox browser window.

Yes. I thought you'd never ask. : ) Here is the screenshot. And, oh yeah, that's right. Taskbar. Thank you. I could not think of the name of it to save my sanity!

The screenshot is very hard to see. I had to choose between little type and so big that the pixels made it blurry. But please look at the left corner where you'll see a tab with a Google logo superimposed upon my taskbar.

Thanks.

I realize that the screenshot I gave you is not readable. How do I give you a screenshot? I tried pressing prt sc on my keyboard and then Ctrl+V but it would not paste.

By the way, I am talking about tabs, up top, but am still referring to the Menu Bar up top: Edit. View. Tools... etc. There is a Tab superimposed on my Menu Bar.

I hope that clarifies things.

Thanks.

Were you able to see my screenshot of the tab overlaying my menu bar? I am still waiting for an answer.

Thanks.

Does it help if you place the tab bar at its original position?

  • View > Toolbars : [ ] Tabs on Top

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

In Firefox 4 Safe mode disables extensions and disables hardware acceleration.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

Whew! That worked. Although, I had to de-select "tabs on top." I'm curious about Safe Mode. Once one starts in Safe Mode and disables those extensions, etc., can you restart as normal again?

Yes, no problems.
If you use "Firefox > Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled" or by holding down the Shift key then that only lasts one time and the next time you will start Firefox in regular mode.

In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in Safe mode:

  • Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)
