I don't use/need web security for my Mac; do I need it if I use Firefox?

Ancestry.co.uk have told me to use Firefox instead of Safari. All pc salesmen tell me I don't need web security with my Mac. All has been safe to date. If I use Firefox, do I now need to purchase web security even though I am still using my Mac?

You should install some form of web security, there are viruses that target the Mac.

Firefox is not an anti-virus application, it has safer browsing features that warn if trying to visit a known attack site or phishing site, but will not scan for viruses or other malware.
