"Rolling back" to 3.6.16 --- I can't do it.

This is sort of a continuation on from my other post, but this is now to do with which version I am running.

I like FF. It is nicer and I like that it is "out there" for people to improve.

Sure I have a lot of addons - who doesn't?

At some stage the UPLOAD function stopped working as easily as it should. I had to keep using the "CLASSIC UPLOAD" thing. Annoying at best because of the one file at a time methodology.

3.6.16 seemed to fix that I noticed. Fantastic! All is good. I also have a programmable remote control. That was working.

I got a message about FF 4.x and didn't worry about it. Heard too many bad things saying it was too buggy and the GUI wasn't too appealing just now.

Then, I got a message about FF 3.6.17. Well, it isn't 4.x, so yeah, why not.

BAD MOVE! Now, I can't upload again. Back to "CLASSIC UPLOAD" and I can't program my remote. Alas I am only half way through getting it working, so it is annoying to say the least.

Looking in other posts, I can supposedly get "older verions" at a site. But when I go there it is all 3.6.17, and that is exactly what I have and it doesn't work - in the way 16 did.

Further more, when I try to post in other topics I get an ACCESS DENIED message after I try to log in.

I am not an efficianado (how ever you spell it) with this site, but it seems very un-user friendly. I log in in one tab, open links to "here" in other tabs and am not logged in.

Why?

Thanks for the link. I just downgraded to the absolute shtfest that's 4.0. I WAS just fuming about how gawdawful this "new" version is, but after wasting so much time trying to sort thru all the issues caused by this 4.0 downgrade (past updates have always been seamless and troublefree - not so for this shtfest!) I'm flat-out RAGING!!! Fortunately the laptop still has 3.6.xx running - it's the LAST version of Firefox it will EVER see. I switched to Firefox so many years ago to get away from the insanity and frustration of Explorer - if this 4.0 crapshoot is the "future" of Firefox, then the incompetent nimrods responsible for it know where they can ram it. I'm starting the search for a new browser now - so long Firefox, it's been fantastic while it lasted, but you've gone and screwed the pooch, you've ruined a superb browser!

I'll attempt a reload of 3.6.xx on the desk machine, and if successful I'll run it till it drops, or I find a suitable replacement browser, but 4.0 won't be coming back - GOOD RIDDANCE!!!

I'd hold back there "Powderkeg".

I guess because FF is "out there" and always being updated/improved - though you would beg to differ - it is regretable that these things happen.

I have just got 3.6.16 installed again. Alas the problems remain for me.

Maybe because of artifacts of the newer version. Dunno.

But hang in there. You have the older version going. Leave the new-er/est version for a while and maybe it will get the bugs out of it soon enough.

Well, you're much more optimistic than I am (and patient) - a powderkeg doesn't react well to mishandling (like the abuse I'm being put thru trying to get the abomination known as 4.0 to work as well as the old one). The laptop has I believe 3.6.10 running, and I'm honestly not certain if I was running 3.6.16 or .17 or something older on the desk when I fell for the cruel sadistic joke that this downgrade to 4.0 is. It should've been the latest 3.6.xx, as in the past I've always gone for the recommended upgrade, especially since they've always been a bonafide improvement and presented no issues other than a need to check for add-on updates.

I really hate to dump on Firefox as it's been a great browser with some excellent features and add-ons for a long time, but this hoax of an "improvement" is way too bad to tolerate, or cut them a break on. What were they smokin' when they hallucinated this mess?
