Awesome bar has become sluggish - is there a cure?

I have noticed that the awesome bar searches have become noticeably more sluggish (delays of up to a second) compared to after I first switched to FF4.

Is this due to the history no longer being expunged after a certain number of days (the corresponding setting seems to have gone)?

Should I vacuum the databases like places.sql - if so, how is this done under FF4?

The solution is upgrading to Firefox 5, where the Awesome bar is very much faster.
