When I select a link to open in new tab or even just to open the page that opens is not what I choose. Istead I get random sites
I've tried various viris scanner programmes etc but I am still haveing trouble in Firefox (not in IE). Whne I select a link to open it quite often takes me to a comletly different page

Do a malware check with a few malware scan programs.
You need to use all programs because each detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database before doing a scan.
