Firefox doesn't like Google!

more options

Firefox now (since this morning) refuses to open anything to do with Google, claiming there is an error:- Secure Connection Failed An error occurred during a connection to www.google.co.uk. PR_END_OF_FILE_ERROR The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified. Please contact the web site owners to inform them of this problem. Repeated uninstalls and reinstalls produce the same result. Reboots no help either. Any suggestions? This message is using Opera. I would rather use Firefox. Other machines running on the network do not have the same problem. George Adams

Hi George, this message has a variety of potential causes. Here are two things to try:

(1) Clear Firefox's web content cache. The following article has the steps:

How to clear the Firefox cache

Uncheck the box about clearing cookies and site data, that would be overkill.

(2) Prevent Firefox from using any system-defined proxy:

Open the Settings page using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Settings (previously "Options")
  • type or paste about:preferences into the address bar and press Enter to load it

In the very tiny search box at the top of the page, type proxy and Firefox should filter to the "Network Settings" section.

Click the Settings button, select "No Proxy" near the top of the dialog, and click OK near the bottom of the dialog.

Any difference?
