IMAP INBOX file in profile is VERY VERY LARGE with 95 beta [Bug 1742975 - Bug 1734847 (.msf corruption) NOT FIXED on beta. (NOT VERSION 91.x)]
The folder properties for an IMAP INBOX folder is 60 megabytes. The file in the profile is actually 30 gigabytes. Whenever it compacts the file, it will often crash Thunderbird. What can I do to fix the problem?

First, what are your crash IDs from Help > More Troubleshooting Info ?
Second, you can delete the Inbox file from your profile Help > More Troubleshooting Info > Profile Folder > Open Folder, and let it redownload.

Here are a few of the recent Crash IDs
Now it crashes whenever I click on an email. And Thunderbird has a thread running ALL the time
I downloaded and reinstalled (beta) Thunderbird... and that fixed it. Before, had I left Thunderbird running, it would consume a thread all the time, and eventually would crash, without me doing anything.
So you did not delete the Inbox? (you didn't say that you did) What version is being reported now?

95.0b5 (64-bit) version
I did delete the INBOX and the INBOX. file, and it went out and downloaded the proper size file. However, then Thunderbird went a bit crazy. First, it would always sit there and burn one thread for a long period of time... and crash. Or if I clicked to open an email, it would go unresponsive, the application would continue to burn memory.... gigs and gigs of memory, until it crashed.
I then went out and got the latest greatest Beta, and re-installed Thunderbird. So far, everything seems to be working fine again. No strange behavior... no massive files... and no crashing... after a couple of hours.
I spoke too soon. It still acts that if you click on some e-mails Thunderbird go unresponsive, the application burns memory.... gigs and gigs of memory, until it crashes.
Your issue is related to https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1742975
I think you are correct. I opted to kill the Beta version and went back to the release version.
I first saw the Beta version going south starting near the end of November. When it crashed it left behind lotst of nstmp* files... and it actually filled up my hard drive. There were **many** software updates through November... and more and more bugs seem to appear. A thread burning a CPU.... then a memory leak that would crash upon clicking on an email.... and I don't think it is a corrupted index file...... just my humble opinion. I think there have been several major bugs in the past month. Whatever, I threw in the towel.
Correction: I first saw the Beta version going south starting near the end of OCTOBER
Crashes still gone?
