My problem,using Mint20.2-MATE, with FireFox92, is that FF92 shuts down whenever I minimize FF-i.e., totally down-does NOT appear in taskbar. I know I had the same problem years ago, and it was a simple fix. However, going through the "Help" sections in FF this time was no help. thank you for any suggestions.

Chosen solution

Just keep both. One from your distro and the other running from a folder. It will help in troubleshooting future issues having your distro version and from Mozilla.

Try downloading a separate copy of Firefox and run it from the folder(do not sign into you Firefox account) to see what happens.

Thanks for your reply, however, it did not work.

Were there any error messages or crash reports?

Start Firefox using Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Thanks, but it does not start in "Troubleshoot Mode" (using terminal, of course).

So you downloaded a separate copy and had the same issue?

How about doing strace to see what happens when you minimize?

Thanks for trying. Im sorry, but have to leave for rest of day. Can we please continue tomorrow AM?

You need to first run Firefox from the cmd line to get the process id. see screenshot Then use that id for the strace process.

I ran it from the terminal;please see screenshot.

Right, then run the strace cmd from my screenshot with your process id. Then minimize Firefox, take note of the time, and then look at the log to see what happen.

Try the Firefox version from the official Mozilla server if you currently use a version from the repositories of your Linux distribution.

That is the one I use.

Your troubleshooting information shows "distributionID: mint" and that is a clear indication that you have a Firefox version from the repositories and not from the Mozilla server. You probably also cannot update Firefox via "Help -> About Firefox".

I have FF setup to automaticay install the updates. It has done this several times,i.e., my v is 92.01,64bit. In your opinion, should I uninstall FF, and then dl from the mozilla url(as I thought I had initially done)? Again, thanks for your assistance.
