I have been using a Microsoft v-3000Lifecam webcam on Firefox to chat to people without any problem but my browser has now updated to 56.02 and my webcam will no longer work, it does work on an old browser (opera) that hasn't been updated. If I go on to a webcam test website on Firefox I get the message "Camera not authorized. Please check your media permissions settings." but I have clicked on the 'allow' dropdown and this version of Firefox does not have about:config. I have been through all of the settings I can see but nothing. Can someone help please?

Please update your Video Card Drivers from https://www.geforce.com/drivers as they are old from 2-5-2015

I would suggest you go to the manufactures website of your cpu/laptop and check their support pages for drivers for your motherboard before the disappear. There will have been several releases of software there that you should download install and save.

You have a extension it is part of a Mozilla experiment, called 'Shield Studies'. Without even knowing it, you may have volunteered for this Mozilla experiment. Would you go to : Options => Privacy & Security => under 'Data Collection and Use' : Did you uncheck : 'Allow Firefox to install and run studies ' or is it checked  ? (do suggest leave send info to Mozilla ticked as that is how I found out. It only sends when make support issues)

To check if you are enrolled in these studies : Type in the address bar about:studies

Any extensions that you see listed there, you can either disable or remove, just like this Safe Browsing version 4 (at the end of the experiment they will be disabled anyway).

Check if Windscribe is causing the issue be temp disable that Extension.

If the above does not work try : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode

Are you running the drivers that came with the Cam or have they been updated by MS ?

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Thank you pkshadow. In the end, I had to uninstall the camera completely, restart, camera then reloaded as it was PnP. But I then had to update the Drivers and test using a camera testing program. It was not enough to just look for the latest Drivers at the beginning, this did not work. It was strange because it only happened after Firefox updated, maybe a coincidence. I am a bit suspicious that my camera was in some way hijacked or disabled by a Hacker (security services?) although there was no indication from my security programs. Thank you for the help.
