Not given "Permission" to change permission setting to unlock the padlock to enable secure connection

more options

I'm unable to change the setting in Firefox to unlock the secure settings. I've dowloaded Firefox Developer and went through "Preferences". Everything in each option under Preferences appears to be fine...the technical based info is something i don't understand and don't want to mess with it all.

I'm using the Chrome browser to send this to you. I can see the green padlock icon and "Secure" in the URL bar.

In Firefox, the icon does not appear in the URL bar. When I click on the Firefox icon where the URL bar is the permission notice is gray colored.

I've clicked on the wrench icon and it's leading me to more technical setting information and it's all way over my head.

I would like some one to walk me through the process of resetting my firefox browser...its seems like there is an easy solution, but i can't get to it.

Firefox should make secure connections by default. Although the little site information panel combines permission and security information, these actually are quite separate in the product, so you probably won't need to adjust any permissions (but we'll see!).

If you are getting a security-related error, could you provide more details about which one it is? For example, here are four common scenarios users ask about here:

(1) Instead of getting the site, you get a full page error saying "Your connection is not secure"

This error page generally has an "Advanced" button to get more technical information. These are follow-ups from that information:

(2) Instead of getting the site, you get a full page error saying "Secure Connection Failed"

Sometimes reloading the page (Ctrl+r) makes it work, sometimes not. This error page typically has scantier information about the problem and if the padlock appears normally, can be taken to mean "connection failed." The main article on this error:

(3) You get the page but it is unstyled, scrambled, or otherwise incomplete.

Often a user has scenario #1, and used the "Add Exception" button to allow loading the page despite Firefox's warnings. When the page requires content from an HTTPS connection to a different server that doesn't have a connection the page breaks. Please see the articles for #1.

(4) You get the site but the icon on the address bar is not a solid green lock but some other icon.

This can be caused by the site using weak encryption, or if there is are images in the page retrieved using an HTTP address. You should still be able to use the site but we can address your concerns about the situation if you give us more details about what is displayed on the panel that appears when you click the lock.

Looking forward to your reply.
