Hello everyone. I have a problem with Thunderbird that has been going on for months now, in that I now once again, can no longer download my emails from Hotmail. This happens after I delete my old and newer emails that I have received from Hotmail. I have thousands of emails from Hotmail that are downloaded into my Thunderbird inbox, and just after I deleted thousands of them, Thunderbird would no longer download new emails from Hotmail. I can still send emails out from Thunderbird, but I can't download new emails or any emails that are on Hotmail.com.

This has happened on my two laptops, and at first I could not understand why it was happening, but I have noticed that it happens right after I delete large blocks of older emails stored in Thunderbird.

I also have a 2nd GMail account that I also use within Thunderbird, and that still works, and still downloads from Gmail, even after I delete emails from that inbox.

Anyone have any ideas as to how to help me?

Btw, to add to this, I have just gotten a very odd and strange message from TB, that I have NEVER seen before, and the TB error message displays on the screen when I try get new emails from Hotmail:

"The RETR command did not succeed. Error retrieving a message. Mail server pop3.live.com responded: Server Unavailable. 21"

Is this a TB problem that I can fix, or is it a Hotmail server issue? What can I do about getting this problem fixed?

In the last month or so the servers for Hotmail/live/outlook have changed, e.g. outlook.office365.com for POP and IMAP, and smtp.office365.com for SMTP. If you make these changes, does the Hotmail account work properly?

Thanks for the reply. What I have noticed, is that this issue that I am having with Hotmail linking up with my TB mail account where it no longer downloads new emails from Hotmail, occurs after I delete quite a few emails that are stored on my inbox on TB. I just wonder if there is a connection between the two going on here. When this happened, I deleted TB from my computer, and then reinstalled it, using Mozbackup, and then when TB was back up and running, it would download all my unread emails from Hotmail as it always has done with no problems. Everything seems to be fine with TB and downloading all new and unread emails from Hotmail. But then, when I start deleting the thousands of emails that accumulate over the course of many months that are now downloaded to my PC from Hotmail and are stored within TB (which are put into the trash bin and then are permanently deleted from TB and my PC), then I can no longer download my new emails from Hotmail. It just stops. My guess is that somehow during the trash deletion process that maybe a file gets corrupted somehow? I have no idea, but that seems to be the case, because this email download issue from Hotmail occurs right after I mark emails for deletion and put into the TB Trash bin, and then delete them.

Very strange and weird, and I haven't any idea of is going on here.

Antivirus programs can interfere with deleting emails if the program is set to scan mail folders. Is this a factor? Running in Windows safe mode (Shift+Restart) will test this idea.

If the Trash folder is corrupted, it can be rebuilt according to these instructions. Essentially, you delete the Trash mbox file and Trash.msf, restart TB, and let the folder be automatically recreated as a new, uncorrupted folder.
