I added Kaspersky Internet Security last week and every day it downloads and installs Firefox version 42, 43, 44, 45, and 46. (At least that's the message it gives me.) Everything seems to be working fine otherwise. I called Kaspersky, and the English-challenged individual who I talked to elevated my issue to a "Tier 2" support. Tier 2 tells me to uninstall Firefox and reinstall something called Firefox ESR located here: https://download.mozilla.org/?product=firefox-31.2.0esr-SSL&os=win&lang=en-GB

Can someone tell me 1. What is ESR? 2. Since Firefox is always upgrading to the latest and greatest, why do I need it? 3. How can I do this without losing my bookmarks and passwords?

ESR is Extended Support Release. It is based on a Release every seven versions and gets security updates for eight times.

The Firefox 31.2.0esr you were linked to is rather old as it came out October 14, 2014.

The current ESR is based on the Firefox 45.0 Release but with security updates. The current is 45.4.0esr as it will likely get supported up to 45.8.0esr which will come out when Firefox 53.0 is released.
