Can I disable the black box "plugin needed", when displaying animated images? I don't use flash. Firefox 10 just displayed the image with no error box.

I upgraded from Firefox 10 to Firefox 38 (on Linux). I do not have a flash player installed and don't want one. With Firefox 10, when I clicked on an image that had animation, it just showed the still image with no animation and nothing additional. After upgrading to Firefox 38.5, it shows a black box that says, "A plugin is needed to display the content". Is there a way to disable the black box from coming up at all, so I would just see the image as it did in Firefox 10? See images attached.
