Hello

I would be so grateful to know how to fix t his, because it's really getting on my nerves.
I have windows 7 pro 64 bit. I mostly always use firefox. Whenever i opened a new browser, I never got hit with the windows badge and "Do you want this program to make changes to your computer...." or something to that effect. YOu who have windows 7 know what I mean. Of course I click yes, but I NEVER had to do this before. I don't know what changed, what might have happened. I had to have help with some software unrelated to firefox and someone had remote work on my notebook, but he should not have changed browser settings. It is really irritating me to now end to always open the browser now and have to hear that annoying thing and the badge.

My other browsers IE and chrome do not do this.

How can I fix this? It was never the case before for years.

thanks I am grateful in advance. I can't use this browser if this s going to happen it gets on my nerves.

Chosen solution

A possible cause of this message is that Firefox is set to run as Administrator.

Check that Firefox isn't set to run as Administrator. Right-click the Firefox desktop shortcut and choose "Properties". Make sure that all items are deselected in the "Compatibility" tab of the Properties window.

  • Privilege Level: "Run this program as Administrator" should not be selected
  • "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" should not be selected

Also check the Properties of the firefox.exe program in the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\). If you can't make changes then start Windows Explorer as Administrator.

i did that, and yes, it was checked to run as administrator. The tech person probably did that, why I don't know. I am the only one using my notebook. However, I tried to open another firefox browser, and it did not open. Is this a new problem?

Hi

Unchecking the administrator did the trick of stopping the badge and "administrator" question. But, now firefox is different from the version I had in that I was able to click x to open a new tab. Now, if I do that, it doesnt open a new tab but shuts down firefox. Is there a way to find the version I had before all this happened to it?
Thanks, I really appreciate your help.

Hi I just wanted to say I figured out how to open a new tab. I guess when I uninstalled and reinstalled I downloaded a more recent version. Thank you much Cor-el, you really helped. Gina
