Ctrl+Tab has insufficient number of tab previews. Need more.
I have enabled Ctrl+Tab function to switch between tabs and I'd like to be able to choose between more than 6 tabs. "browser.ctrlTab.recentlyUsedLimit" does not work (I've read somewhere that it was "integer" but after clicking on reset it is now "string" and I can't do anything about it - manual edit in config file?). How can I enable more previews? Preferably 10-15. Thank You.
Edit: I use v34.0.5 I've already (prior asking this question) done extensive web search and all possible answers were outdated and do not work anymore. No addon that I know of helps too. I seek specific solution, no vague answer. Thanks for understanding.

Go to the Mozilla Add-ons Web Page {web link} (There’s a lot of good stuff here) and search for what you want.
Absolutely useless answer. Unless you can point me at specific addon that can solve my problem then don't tell me to do what I've already done. No google search or addon search helped.

There are several add-ons among many thousands. Each has its own features. The only one to decide what is best for you . . . . . . . is YOU.
And there is no reason to be cross with my answer.

Guess what. I went there, again, with the same amount of luck as before. The only addon that could help me does no longer work. The other option is a list which I don't want. Or to stay with outdated firefox.
So as I've stated before your answers are useless. I ask for a specific help - how to increase number of tab previews in ctrl+tab function. So if you cannot or are unwilling to help me then don't waste either mine or your time. Thank you.

Hi Master_Kosa
:-(
Lets try to stay friendly with one another. We are all just fellow Firefox users. There is the possibility that your question will not have any satisfactory answer.
I am not trying to waste your time here. I am just trying to clarify the question, and provide some relevant information.
I am presuming you have toggled the pref browser.ctrlTab.previews to true. When I do that I get up to 6 previews, which I guess is all that will fit in a single row across my display screen. It then has an option to [display all (number) tabs] but that just opens the dropdown list.
I do not even have the pref "browser.ctrlTab.recentlyUsedLimit" and manually creating such an integer pref with value 7 does not give me an extra preview.
- In fact this article http://www.howtogeek.com/139736/how-to-change-hidden-advanced-settings-in-any-browser/ suggests the pref controls the Minimum number at which the dropdown will display. Not the number of preview tabs.
- I did find this article, but it could be out of date, it says default value is 3
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Browser.ctrlTab.previewsCount
Possible alternative workarounds.
I can actually get more previews my OS (Ubuntu) will easily display 9 tab previews and allow switching between them using Alt + `
Presumably Windows has something similar from its task bar.
Firefox also has the group tabs feature. Previously known as Panorama. And probably no longer in development that allows large numbers of thumbnails of varying size {postage stamp to large preview} to be seen
I also found this article which presumably predates the Panorama work https://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox/Projects/Control_Tab
I apologize for being harsh before I guess I'm just allergic to stupid answers (which pointing at general directory of ffox addons with "find it yourself" attitude is). I was asking precisely because I did not find what I was looking for.
I've read these articles before and sadly it did not help. I thought that "browser.ctrlTab.recentlyUsedLimit" was related to number of previews. My mistake then.
I do not know much about Ubuntu so I'm not sure what are you talking about. Alt tab in win allows me to switch between all open programs/documents etc. But for each thing, like browser it has one "thumb".
I use tabs to organize my open web pages (more than 80), I'd love to switch between the most recent used with wider range - 6 is not enough, especially since I'm working on 26" monitor, the ctrl tab preview "belt" is whole screen wide and these previews are unnecessarily large - it would be possible to fit in double the number without it being confusing.
So this ctrl+tab really is obsolete feature that was replaced by tab groups (aka Panorama)? I had that idea after reading few official articles about controls and stuff but I hoped that someone would know what to tinker with to make it behave the way I want....
Did you try the tabs groups ? That to me sounds very close to what you are trying to achive.
As far as I can see yes the old type feature is obsolete, and the panorama style tabs groups gives much what a large number of the Control_Tabs previews would do. AFAIK development of Tabs groups has also ceased, but it does still work. It has an icon that; now by default; is in the customise section of icons. It is nolonger on a mainmenu or toolbar.
I am no Windows expert but I note the taskbar may be set to combine taskbar buttons that can easily display 10 firefox tab previews across a screen.
With aero on it will give a Rolodex style, view of open windows and runs through the previews with WinKey + Tab that will certainly let you quickly run through 10 previews.
Someone else may join in who has better knowledge of this, and wheter a specific Firefox addon, or who knows maybe some Windows setting or utility that may help.
It does not solve the initial problem, but you asked about getting more tabs on a window this may work
I've been using tab groups since I've started using Firefox (December 2013). I just wanted another tool that will allow navigate me between different tabs, Tab groups allows me to switch between groups using shortcuts but it's without preview and when I have about 17 groups it renders this completely unusable.
What is going to be here instead of Tab Groups then? I hope the answer is not "nothing, Firefox is going to be another cheap Chrome copy"...
Sadly W7 does not work this way. I doubt there's any Windows utility or anything but still thanks for help.
Tab Mix plus allows me to do the same thing. I have 57 different tabs organized in 17 groups, depending on the issue these open web pages cover.
Once again thank you for this. I guess this has no solution without writing an addon by myself which I'm unable to do.... I was hoping there's some kind of command or option that allows me to have more recently opened/visited tabs in that "filmstrip" ctrl+tab opens.

You could try asking in the Add-ons forum. Someone may know of such an add-on, or may be aware of an obscure or hidden pref, or a simple chrome hack.
