Do you have Avast security software?

  • bug 1087674 - Firefox won't close with Avast 2015 10.0.2206 when HTTPS scanning is enabled

Make sure that you have the latest Firefox 33.1.1 release and also the latest updates of all security software.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

You can check for issues caused by plugins and set all plugins to "Ask to Activate" on the "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Plugins" page (plugins are not affected by Firefox Safe Mode)
