My tabs keep disappearing

For the past 2 weeks, probably since the latest update, Firefox only saves my tabs some of the time. I'm not sure if this is what makes the difference but it's possible that if I put my computer to sleep for the night, the tabs are there in the morning and if I turn off my computer and reboot it in the morning, Firefox starts a new session and cannot restore the tabs.

I need to rely on the tabs being saved because those are my reminders for work I need to do. I can't go searching through History to find each tab's site b/c some remain open for days and I don't know what days and don't have that kind of time. VERY frustrating.

When I close FF for the night, I click the red X in the upper right. I use a Samsung Windows 8 machine. I don't speak "tech" so if someone can please explain step-by-step what to do that won't cause me to lose any other data my FF is holding, I'd appreciate it.

Chosen solution

Use "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox; Linux: Firefox/File > Quit) to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the Firefox title bar.

You can also look at the Session Manager extension.

you are in Full Screen Mode. Do one of the following:

Tap the F11 key to turn Full Screen Mode on or off
When you move your cursor to the top of the screen and the toolbar slides down, right-click in a blank space at the end of the tabs, and choose "Exit Full Screen Mode"
   ALT+V+F
