Basically no matter what I do I get two tabs that open whenever I start firefox up. The first tab is my default google homepage, the latter however is a useless one. Specifically https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/29.0/whatsnew/?oldversion=28.0 is what opens and I have no use for it.

I just want it to go straight to homepage, no additional tabs, just like it did before the update.

hello kjlwillycoyote, can you try the steps in this help article: How to fix preferences that won't save (especially the part about a user.js file in your profile folder)?
