There are no more details to give, it hangs every time, will not respond to any click and I have re-installed several times.

Chosen solution

It may be a problem with the profile (location where user data is stored). re-installing does not by default remove the profile.

If you can start the profile manager try creating a new profile, for details see Creating a new Firefox profile on Windows. If the new profile works, that article also has a link about transferring some of your original settings over to it. You can copy the bookmarks and passwords, but I recommend not copying other data as it may re-create the problem that you are experiencing.

I fixed this problem after reading the help file: Troubleshooting extensions and themes.htm. Start Firefox in Firefox Safe Mode. Select Tools from menu then - Add-ons - then select Extensions and Disable the Browser Defender Toolbar. This fixed it for me. I am using Win XP Professional version and Firefox version 3.6.13 downloaded Dec. 10, 2010.
