When a firefox window is active on my second display, I lose the firefox menubar on my main display. I haven't noticed this before, is it something new, or have I inadvertently changed a setting?

If you are referring to fullscreen on MacOS, try changing full-screen-api.macos-native-full-screen to false in about:config.
