I changed my email password. When I retrieved mail a dialog asked me for the new password - no problem. However, when I attempted to send mail - it just said failed. Well, of course. The stored password is wrong. I can find no way to change the stored password for SMTP. This is a serious problem for me. What do I do?

To change the stored password, go to tools>settings>privacy&security, click 'show passwords' and then right-click the row you want to edit and the option to edit password appears.

I was hoping that deleting and redefining the SMTP entry would allow me to enter the password. It doesn't. During the data entry for a new SMTP there is no prompt or entry field for a password. I tried to redefine the password by using Tools->Settings->Privacy & Security->Passwords->Saved Passwords But, there is no SMTP record for the SMTP server I just created.

It appears that the only to get an SMTP server correctly defined again is to delete the account completely and then redefine it again. This would be unacceptable.

This does feel like something that fell through the cracks. This is all the result of wanting to change my email password. I suppose if I had understood how to access Saved Passwords I might have been able to complete a password changing with minimal trouble. But it really seems that when I edit an Outgoing Server (SMTP) Settings there needs to be some simple means of editing the password.

I got around the problem by adding another copy of the email account. I sent a test email which caused a password prompt to appear. I entered the new password and the email was sent. I then deleted the duplicate account and noted that the SMTP record remained and was not deleted when I deleted the duplicate.

I thought this would solve the problem but Thunderbird would not accept the second account. Is there no way of finding what Thunderbird considers to be "the normal password" ?
