To add further information. Outlook is specified as the default mail client within the OS settings and Outlook itself. I have a logitech keyboard that has an "E-Mail" button which is mapped to the "default" mail client. The keyboard button opens Outlook just fine.

I think you will have to wait until 60.6 for MAPI to work correctly on 64Bit Windows.

Thank you. I have time to wait. The sunset date for Outlook 2010 isn't until 2020. Just thought I would get off of it now so I wouldn't have to update Outlook so often with new security patches.

However I though you were saying import did not work. What has that to do with a MAPI error?

Why are you using Thunderbird 38. V60 is the current version.

By clicking on the help within the latest version of Thunderbird, it brings up a Mozilla article on how to import. The article stated that the current version could not import from Outlook. It stated to use 31.8, import, then update Thunderbird to the latest version.

My understanding is that V60 restored the import. So I guess the article has not been updated.

However I get exactly the same error message from outlook when I try and import using V60. That may of may not be indicative as the copy of outlook on this device simple is so broken it will not run. A crashed Microsoft upgrade. Perhaps you might try setting it as the default mail client until the import has occurred.

Is your copy of Windows 32 or 64 bit? This might be relevant hare. Also did you previously install Thunderbird 60 and downgrade to 38?

I reinstalled 60.4 and also got the same error trying to import. Outlook is perfect. This is newly formatted drive and installed OS, as of last week. Outlook installed without any errors, has no errors or warnings in the Event Viewer, and runs fine. Outlook is already the default mail client. This is 64-bit. I first installed 60.4, then uninstalled 60.4. I deleted all the left over Mozilla files, then installed 31.8. MailStore seemed to have worked but I am still verifying. Also, how would I transfer my contacts?

You want to extract the contacts from Outlook as vCards, then import them to TB with an add-on. This may seem like an overly-complex method, but it's easier than the alternative with csv files.

Thanks for the help so far. I am getting closer. I imported my email and have started the arduous process of importing contacts but I am not getting all info from the VCF file. It is not importing multiple email addresses per contact, notes, and info that is in the vcard. Is there a way to modify the import process? I was hoping to try out Thunderbird but not sure if I can, if I have to hand type most of the vcf file info. I have also been trying to customize the Address Book view of the contacts, so I can choose what info to show. Some of the fields I use and others are not showing up.

If you imported the vCards with the add-on but it wasn't satisfactory, you may be better off exporting the contacts from Outlook as a csv and editing it in a spreadsheet before importing to TB.

As for viewing the address book, the same add-on allows for many more types of columns to be displayed (click the icon at the right end of the column buttons).

I am told by one of the developers that the problem with the error is specific to the 64 bit version of Thunderbird.... which is NOT a release version which is why it is not on the getthunderbird.com list of offered versions. You must have gone to some troubles to get it.

So uninstall Thunderbird, reinstall the 32 bit version from get thunderbird.com and reboot your PC. Apparently the MAPI DLL changes require windows to restart.

Did you get a different result importing vCards with CardBook instead of the recommended MoreFunctionsForAddressBook add-on? The link given in an earlier reply extracts vCards from Outlook by drag and drop; no converter necessary.

Stay with the 32-bit version of TB 60.4, and you may find the import wizard starting from Tools/Import/Address books works with Outlook.
