Embedded YouTube video playback controls missing

more options

I've noticed that for embedded YouTube videos, the playback controls (except volume and current/total time) aren't displayed.

(See attached screenshots or this page: http://janekatra.org/media.htm#video )

Problem exists in FF version 42.0 on both Mac and Windows.

I suspect that the major culprit is the new Flash plugin 19.0.0.245 which I installed Nov 10, 2015. However that plugin works as expected on Chrome and Safari (Mac), and Chrome and IE (Windows).

I have tested with Firefox versions 41.0.2, 41.0, and 39.0 (on Mac) with the same results, which again suggests that the latest Flash plugin isn't playing nicely with Firefox.

I did notice that YouTube videos embedded in Wordpress pages are working as expected.

Thanks jscher200 for your speedy reply. I fixed the problem. I simply disabled all my extensions, restarted Firefox, enabled all the extensions, and restarted Firefox again. All is now working as expected! :)

Could you confirm which player is being used in each browser? Usually you can tell from the player's context menu, available on right-click/Ctrl+click. Flash has a unique short menu. (On Windows 7, YouTube serves an HTML5 player, and everything looks okay.)

If it's not Flash, then the problem likely would be with the controls of the built-in HTML5 player, or controls specified in the page.

Hi

I have the same problem. So far I tried to start in safemode and disabled all extensions (not plugins), but no luck so far. When I try in Internet explorer everything work fine. Any suggestions?

Hi tar1973, sorry for the lack of reply, but this thread was already marked solved last Fall. If you still have this issue, could you start a new question?

Hi tar1973, I learned elsewhere that Firefox 44 has a bug (1247733) with embedded YouTube videos when the site used an insecure (HTTP) URL and Firefox automatically switched it to secure (HTTPS) URL. In that case, some of the controls are not drawn. This will be fixed in Firefox 45 next month.
