The search edit is not working. I can't display a list of available search engines. This is a new install of 8.1. The only search that is available is Bing, ninemsn.com.au is my home page, they are hand in glove with microsoft. I want to use Google search, not Bing. The search window at the top of Firefox is not working. Anything I type does not trigger a search. I have to use the Bing window on ninemsn.com.au to activate a search It has worked before so I am quite puzzled

Maybe you have adware or even malware on the computer. It is normally very easy to change search engines from the searchbar, and that adjusts the search used from other things including the address bar, new tabs page and homepage

Remove any obvious unwanted toolbars using Firefox's addons page. lso check and remove any unwanted programs using Window Control panel. Then check for malware

Note you should run multiple and up to date scanning tools.
