Sync Failing & Screwing Up Bookmarks

Currently running Firefox v37.0.1 on 3 * Windows machines and the latest Android version on 1 * mobile device. Sync is not working properly in that some folders and / or some bookmarks are being duplicated. Others are not. The metadata for these folders is also being mangled.

I would say that an in-process Sync may have been interrupted as I am experiencing daily crashes with Firefox 37.0.1 (and on most other recent versions and on all machines). I would guess that any one of these events may have corrupted whatever table / mechanism is used to control the Sync process?

That said, if a Sync process is interrupted or fails for any reason I would have expected that the updates would not be committed to the Account master table.

I had already gone through the process of recreating my Sync account on both v35 and again on v37 having installed the latest versions of Firefox on all devices. All appeared to be OK for a few weeks but now these issues. Of course, there could be something even more fundamentally wrong with the Sync process?

How can this situation be recovered and my bookmarks be reinstated?

Are there plans to fix the process be improved and to make it more resilient?

The first thing that I would recommend doing is to use this extension in the Firefox desktop / laptop versions to fix the Places database on each. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/places-maintenance/

At a minimum it should get rid of all those duplicates. But before running it, make sure Firefox is closed on the Android device and all the other desktop./ laptop devices - fix them one at a time. I don't know if that add-on works on Firefox for Android, though.

Thanks for the suggestions edmeister. I will give that a try when I have the time and report back.

Any idea what is going wrong with Sync and if anyone at Mozilla on the case? The increased frequency of crashes in recent versions is a contributing cause and a concern.

I just want a Firefox browser that works without the recent gizmos which are not really being implemented properly. Do not believe that I am alone in this.
