I upgraded to Firefox 36.0 but have lost all of my plugins. I followed the troubleshooting steps but the pluginreg.dat file never regenerates.

I am still using Fedora 14 (64-bit) because it works so much better than the later ones. If this is the reason I can't get plugins to work so be it. I believe I have followed the proper steps to recover my plugins but maybe I missed something. Note that Java and Flash worked fine for several years. It broke when I upgraded the browser.

Chosen solution

It is possible to reinstall these plugins.

I did find another resource for installing plugins on the Linux version of Firefox:

I'm not sure why or how the symbolic links went missing but I recreated them and I now have both Java and Flash working again. I guess I have lost most of my mind because I should have remembered how this worked (well, it was about 3 years ago but that's not much of an excuse). It would have been nice if the official documentation had mentioned it, but still this was my bad. I am forever indebted to you, gulgs2. If I can ever return the favor don't hesitate to ask.
