Context: I'm moving from Outlook to Thunderbird so still adjusting. Bear with me.

I prefer to view all incoming messages initially as plain text. I believe this prevents tracking-images and other detritus from coming in with the message. So with Outlook, everything come in plain text; I can change the currently displayed message to HTML when I trust the source and want view it that way. It does NOT affect the other messages.

Now, with TB, it seems that when I choose the View / Message Body As / Original HTML then all messages viewed subsequently are displayed as Original HTML.

I've looked around for a little while and don't see the how to default all messages to Plain Text and apply the View-as-Original-HTML to only the currently-displayed message.

Is this possible? Thanks for your help, Mark

Recently when I try to download a file Firefox seems to give it a random amount of time before it attempts to open the file. For small files this isn't a problem, as it always seems to give at least a few seconds, but larger files get cut off. This leaves the file corrupted/incomplete.

I have no idea why is started doing this. Just one day it started opening everything I downloaded, be it PDF, image etc when complete. I turned this off and it has stopped for things that download properly, but it's still doing this 'cut off' attempt to open.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks,

Dear Mozilla community

I recently re-downloaded a Thunderbird on MAC OSX (catalina) and wondered how nice it is now! My compliments to all of you!

My concern: My computer firewall is asking me whether I should allow Thunderbird access to live.thunderbird.net forever. I did granted one day access. Then (after a restart and a couple of days later of course) Thunderbird blocked itself from downloading my email messages from my email servers.

So I stated: Thunderbird does need an access to live.thunderbird.net (for what I do not know) otherwise it blocks.

My question: What for is Thunderbird requesting an access to that address ? What data are transmitted to third parties or to live.thunderbird.net ?

Honestly: I had preferred, it would not need to operate any remote access (except to my email servers) and I am now a little scared of what I did... (information about accounts ... passwords...)

Sorry for asking that, I appreciate you write, you are working for people safety, but indeed I am a bit "paranoid" and need to know in order not to ending up developing also my own email reader ... (hope not).

Maybe the answer here can be in seeing the source code, But I wanted to give it here a try.

Thanks a lot in advance for any hints on this topic Kind regards Fabio

outrageous, i moved from windows to debian for the purpose of exceling my ram capacity on this low spec netbook with 4GB 3.7GB usable with emmc chip and a celeron n4000 cpu turns out ff eats just like in windows.

I am not an expert just savy, remember the time when upgrading from 32MB to 64MB was a big leap? well where the hell did 4GB of ram became obsolete? so there's no windows conspiracy just exponential ram usage?

Is there a different version of FF i could use for this 4GB machine? non-upgradable I could always try vivaldi or look else where but i trust FF for base security. I am using ublock origin on the machine too and 1 custom theme but i doubt that fixes the root cause. Is all the internet in the 2020s this ram voracious beast?

upon loading a empty tab FF uses 500MB for itself forget about the 64MB system ram from the 90s is FF 2025 really so complex or is this a conspiracy? then i load startpage.com and it uses 200MB!! of ram just on that search form man.

I ask a person to send me a signed email so that i can send them an encrypted email. How is this process supposed to work in thunderbird? I receive a signed email, what next? Clearly, thunderbird sees the signature but does not add the public key to the contact. This is in contradiction with [page] that states: The standard way of distributing a person's certificate is to send a digitally signed email. If you have received a signed email from your correspondent, click the email to view it. If Thunderbird considers the email's signature and the sender's certificate valid, it will automatically be imported and available when you attempt to encrypt an email to that correspondent using the S/MIME technology. If you don't have a signed email from your correspondent yet, you could ask them to send a digitally signed email to you.

Note that certificates issued by CAs may have a short validity period. Certificates are no longer usable after the validity period has expired. In that case your correspondent will have to obtain a new certificate. Once that happened they will be able to send you a new digitally signed email with a valid certificate.

Organizations that operate an LDAP server may configure their server to store S/MIME certificates. If an LDAP server is configured, Thunderbird may automatically query the LDAP server if it needs to obtain a S/MIME certificate.

To review the list of S/MIME certificates that you already have, you can use Thunderbird's Certificate Manager.

The certificate shows that it is valid, yet, clicking reply gives "key issues" which shows no key available. Similarly, if I sign an email with pgp key and send it, thunderbird sees that it is signed but tells me that i need to obtain public pgp key. So it seems that signatures and encryption are completely unusable.
