good morning , I am using a mac mini 8 gb ram and the latest ios, avg antivirus and vpn. Following the latest ios update in feb/2026 thunderbird opens then locks with a rotating color circle and force quit is needed to close it. Emails are via the imap and smtp protocols, with both not being recognised by the server. Can you help, I need access to files from thunderbird. Can this be done offline, avoiding the server problem. thank you for your help. Jeff

Program is freezing after a few minutes, even without using, Tried repairing all the folders and everything I could find on google, installed on another laptop, But still the same.

Can you please help me ? Why does my Thunderbird email account keep crashing upon startup ? It comes up everytime and after 1 minute it crashes . I receive email but only if it is that 1 minute time frame . It just started yesterday , 3/23/2026.

I was using TB like normally on windows 11 when it crashed. Now every time i try to open the app it prompts me to send in a crash report, but every time i press "restart thunderbird" a new window with crash report shows up. I have tried writing a comment, checking and unchecking all the boxes and pressing quit thunderbird. But i still get sent into the loop.

For about 2 weeks, EVERY time I try to write an email, after typing a few lines or so, the whole window 'grays out' and becomes UN-responsive. I get no error message. Waiting for it to respond doesn't work and I have to close out and re-start Thunderbird. Sometimes Thunderbird will have saved some portion of my email in my 'Drafts' folder, but not reliably, so I have to frequently 'Control + S' - save it to avoid having to re-type the entire message again. Troubleshoot Mode doesn't help, nor does clearing the cache. I've been hoping an update would come up that would solve this, either from Thunderbird or Windows (11), but not so far. Please tell me how I should resolve this - I have used Thunderbird for years (and regularly contribute too) and don't want to have to change to different email client.

2 months ago, after an update the programme opens then locks with the cursor being a multicolor rotating wheel. All is locked and the only option is to 'Force Quit" to close the programme down. Can you help ? thank you

I've always experience occasional TB crashes. According to my log history there was 1 in July, 3 in Aug, 2 in Sep, 2 in Oct, and 6 in Nov. I never really paid attention since the reboot was quick. But now in December I am losing work and it is a major problem. I've had 30 crashes in Dec and 21 in the past week. I have only 3 add ons and they have not changed, and a Copernic connector. I disable the Copernic connector and it didn't help. I have the same 140.6 on my Surface Go with the same add ons, except for Copernic and it runs fine. On both PCs I use Malewarebytes and WinDef. I have put exclusions for them in their setups. Even with MBAM completely disabled I've still had crashes.

I cleared the Cache and no help. I've even had occasional crashes in Troubleshooting mode. Here are my last 5 crash IDs

Interestingly I’m also experiencing crashes with Firefox, especially ChatGPT. I cleared the ChatGPT history and that helped but did not solve the problem. I cleared the Firefox cache and in troubleshoot mode still have issues.

Otherwise my win11 PC seems to be working fine. I’ve run chkdsk and all is ok. Also scannow is ok.

Is my next step a profile rebuild?

I'm able to add an e-mail account but when I go to add a second e-mail account, when it looks up the information, it just hangs with the circle going around.

This is true for two different user accounts on the same computer.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled Thunderbird but it didn't help.

Thunderbird can't be exited without killing from the task manager or shutting down.

thunderbird 140.8.1 will not run unless restart of mac mini ios15.7.4 sequoia. only runs once then will not run email again.

Can I back up to a previous version that did run or is there an issue?

I have never deleted so many emails at one time, around 500. Did I exceed the limits of Thunderbird? I cannot log on. Cannot see new emails. I have been on emailsrvr.com and did verify my passwords. Thank You

I am trying to enter my Thunderbird account to review my emails, however, everytime I click on the Thunder bird icon nothing happens. Please help me to regain my ability to open Thunderbird. I am falling wat behind in my work.

This started last year and I found a fix on google but I can't remember it. It has noiw come back and is driving me nuts. About 2-5 minutes into composing an email thunderbird goes unresponsive and is greyed out. i have waited 30 mintues and nothing happens. It does not happen until after you type the first character into the new email. I have checked user rights on the thunderbird folder and my windows user folder and I have admnin rights on both If i shut Thunderbird the email appears in drafts when i restart, but only from a bit before it froze. I have reinstalled, compacted nothign is fixing it. Using 64 bit 140.3 on windows 11 home.Tried update to 140.3.1esr. no difference. Just about to give up and go to Outlook because I don't write trivial emails and this is a PITA

Deleted around 400 unread emails at one time, something not done before. Thunderbird shut down, now can not log in. Do not have backup password or two step authorization. Any hope for getting back in?

Hello! The other day everything worked as usual, and I shut down the computer for the night. The next morning, Thunderbird immediately crashed/shut down when starting each of the 2 profiles I always use. The 3rd profile, which is the default-release running a different email, still seems to work normally. Thunderbird 115.10.1

I have tried Windows (10) safe mode, as well as thunderbird Troubleshoot mode and working offline, but the issue continued to occur.

I'm at a loss now as to what could cause 2 profiles to suddenly cause it to crash. By the way, one profile is for a gmail account and the other one is for an Outlook account, so they don't seem to be related.

In case it helps, there were 2 Microsoft Visual C++ programs installed or updated, and updates to Microsoft 365 and Google Drive just before the problem started. These were all auto updates in the background.

Since this morning (05/03/2026) Thunderbird freezes within a minute or two of opening the program.

Everything in the program freezes up. I cannot even close it.

I am running Version 140.8.0esr on a Windows 10 PC.

Initially I was getting a pop up warning message that ask me to confirm if I wanted to send an email with attachments of over 20 MB. There were 3 or 4 such messages. I had not tried to send such emails.

I checked the Outbox in Local folders for old messages, but it was empty. I also checked the Unsent messages files in Local Folders in the Profile folder. I deleted the Unsent Messages.msf file to no effect. I renamed and replaced the Unsent messages file. Also no change.

I checked for crash logs but there are none.

I have run out of ideas as to what to try next. Does anyone have any advice?

It's pretty much in the title. My in box freezes up and no emails arrive. Microsoft will drop drop down a box asking me if I want to open THUNDERBIRD and says make sure I'm using a trusted server - app??? I don't understand any of this!
