I I *don't* want to turn off "Enter starts new paragraph", but I want to change the formatting of "paragraph" to avoid inserting the extra line feeds. How?

This has just been introduced in an attempt to keep in line with how eg: research documents are produced and how type is displayed in web pages.

I know...it isn't how people write letters, where Enter means go to next line and Paragraph meant next line plus indent.

So, the developers decided to make it a default to alter the setup and change users preferences.

Currently, 'Paragraph' is now set as default and when you press 'Enter' it means 'double space' new line with no indentation.

To change this to auto select 'Body Text' and 'Enter' means a go to next line: Either Via 'Menu Bar' 'Tools' > 'Options' > 'Composition' > 'General' tab

OR via 'Mail Toolbar' 'Menu icon' > 'Options' > 'Options' > 'Composition' > 'General' tab

uncheck 'when using paragraph format, the enter key creates a new paragraph.' click on OK

Thanks, Toad-Hall! (What a strange choice to make email more like writing research papers & web pages, and less like writing letters! And my word proc. doesn't insert extra line feeds, even though I write research docs for a living.)

OK, I guess I am defeated: There is no way to tailor what "Paragraph" entails, then? No config choice that specifies, say, the number of new lines?

In HTML, it is normal for paragraphs to have top and bottom margins and you need to use custom style rules to override it. I'm sure there's a way to do that with an email message, although, whether it will survive the round trip to a different program/site is a question mark.

I think a mail template or custom stationery add-on might help, although I haven't tried any myself. For example:

I'm glad the option is there because sometimes my emails get so long. I had to close out of Mozilla to make it work

I would like to turn off enter starts new paragraph. I learned to type 50 years ago so hitting enter twice for a new paragraph is second nature. I really don't like this feature and want to turn it off.

Don"t see those options listed the first time I looked at 'Menu Bar' 'Tools' > 'Options' > 'Composition' > 'General' tab Finally found it, but the description of what to uncheck wasn't presented clearly. I'm not a developer of this software so you need to be specific when giving instructions. Visuals of the dialog would help the vast majority of people that use this product. Thanks for prompting me to look closer for what wasn't described.

Hi jlzibell, I found the image in another thread about this same topic -- there are many of them here started on different dates. You happened to picked one that didn't have a picture... the hazards of using a forum for tech support.
