In earlier versions of Firefox, I could bookmark with two or three tabs & ENTER. Now I have to increase my strokes & use my mouse, which is physically painful on my arm & elbow.

i have painful RSI in my right arm. Physical therapy barely helps. i manage by using keystrokes. in earlier versions of Firefox i used to bookmark in three strokes. not any more.

step 1:

hit ctrl>d on the keyboard OR click star once OR click star twice OR click on bookmarks>bookmark this page.

i can use hands in the first scenario, but mouse must be used in the following 2.

step 2:

tab through box that pops up & use the arrow keys to locate a folder OR tab to create a new folder & ENTER, OR click the star once, do nothing & sort bookmarks later, a tedious task OR double click star, use mouse to choose or create folder, click on DONE.

being able to tab through things, then ENTER is fast & causes no pain. the other 2 require constant use of mouse & hitting the ENTER key does not result in finishing the bookmark. i either have to tab over to it, 3 or 4 more steps, or use mouse to click on ENTER.

because i do a huge amount of browsing & bookmarking--more than any other task--not having this functionality is killing my arm. i can barely lift a coffee cup & i had no problem until i had to start using newest versions of Firefox. if i try to use an older one, not only will i get constant error messages or dialog boxes about my lack of browser support, or gmail will not load until i obey.

i've used Firefox a long time & i like things as simple as possible. why can't Mozilla leave me alone, allow other software to run under old v. of Firefox & stop harassing me until i "upgrade?" they're getting as bad as Microsoft.

give me Windows 98 & Firefox 2.0 & go away. I'll be the happiest computer user in the world.

Have you considered using the mouse with your left hand? Mouse driver software usually has a "left-hand" option, to swap the buttons.

i would absolutely be willing to do that, but my mouse is a right-hander, meaning it's shaped for my right hand. it can't be swapped.

i actually have been using my left hand on the touchpad lately in order to give my right arm a rest. i've also been putting a book on my lap & placing the mouse on top of the book. that positioning has allowed me to avoid the pain caused by extending my arm straight-ish, to use my mouse on the desk.

thanks, ed. wish that would work.

core-el, i don't see the advantage of that or i can't figure out how i'm supposed to use it. for starters, i have to click the mouse in order to get "add bookmark here" to open, which is no different than clicking on the star in the location bar, or right-clicking on the page. there are also options in the bookmarks toolbar, but they all require clicking the mouse & holding down the right button, etc.

my goal is to use keystrokes only. typing on the keyboard, using both hands, using the space bar & my left pinky finger to tab over are all painless routines for me. as soon as i have to take my fingers off the keyboard & use the mouse, the pain begins.

as i said, in older versions of firefox, all i had to do to bookmark a page was click ctrl>d, then tab over & arrow down, when appropriate, to find the folder & add the bookmark. for me, as a touch-typist whose speed is between 60 & 80 wpm, this is lightning fast.

if i have this wrong, please correct me. i just see it as more mouse clicks that don't save me time or pain.

also, my gmail will not work at all today, since i installed the update to Firefox (the latest one). i have to load it in html to see my mail whatsoever. i've restarted my computer three times & still, no dice. any ideas? i'll post this question under the appropriate forum topic, also.
