I have read and done everything in the help and troubleshooting to restore my lost bookmarks that disappeared when foxfire did an update. It's been a few hours now and I am very frustrated. Isn't there anyone I can call or have call me to help me?

Hi, first try restarting Firefox - 3-bar menu > Exit Firefox.

If that doesn't help, and in case a Refresh has occurred, please look on your Desktop for a file named Old Firefox Data - Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings.

If the file isn't there, you can try this: Open bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import and Backup > Restore, and see if you have a backup there.

If not, please see -

If your question is resolved by this or another answer, please take a minute to let us know. Thank you!

I did the restart Firefox already as you suggested in your first sentence. I also restarted by computer twice. No luck.

In your second paragraph, about finding the file name "Old Firefox Data", I did find this file on my desktop. What do I do with the file once I find it....open it? I did open it, and it shows 3 files there, but no choices about "Refreshing Firefox". I closed it and then right clicked on it, and still no options for "Refreshing Firefox".....I would like to complete this task before going onto your third suggestion. Please advise. Thank you.

You need to open the Old Firefox Data on your Desktop and copy the places.sqlite file from it to your new Profile. When you're sure you don't need the Old Firefox Data file anymore, you can just delete it. To open your current FF Profile - see under Copying files between profile folders, in Recovering important data from an old profile. More info - Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data

I did the "refresh" thing, a couple of times. The rest, well, way too much information for me. Too confusing and using language I just don't understand. It's a shame. I wish someone could call me and walk me through it. Until then, I wont be using foxfire anymore. Thank you for your help. If you know somewhere I can call and get help, that is what I really need.

You can check if there are backups available in the Bookmarks Manager (Library).

  • Bookmarks -> Show All Bookmarks -> Import & Backup -> Restore

If there aren't backup available in Firefox then you need to check the profile folders stored in "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop. Each profile stored there has a profile name that starts with a 8 character random name and usually .default as the file extension with a possible time stamp appended if the profile got created via a refresh. You need to open each of the folder if there are multiple profiles stored and check the bookmarkbackups folder in each of the profiles to see if you can locate one with backups.

The name of an automatically created JSON bookmarks backup in the bookmarkbackups folder includes a total item count (folders and separators included) and an hash value to prevent saving the same backup more than once.

  • bookmarks-YYYY-MM-DD_<item count>_<hash>.jsonlz4.

You can copy a backup that looks promising if you check the date and item count in its name to the desktop and restore this file in the Bookmarks Manager (Library; Show All Bookmarks).

  • Bookmarks -> Show All Bookmarks -> Import & Backup -> Restore
