v 30.0 - browsed page fills the screen to the very bottom
On 18 June I auto-updated to latest FF, version 30.0. Since then (I think...) I have the annoying problem that the browsed page fills the screen to the very bottom, overlaying / hiding the task bar. This is most irritating and has never happened before. Have used FF for several years, never seen this before. Anything to do with FF 30.0 ??? If so, I presume that downgrading to the previous version, 29.0.1, would solve the problem.
The computer is an ASUS EEE 1005PE with external ASUS monitor, OS is Windows 7 Starter with latest automatic updates (will downgrade OS soon to XP Pro SP3 - much better!), and if I remember right, the latest OS auto-updates were done a few days before the FF auto-update, and I only had the change after the FF update... Any suggestions anybody? Thank you very much for your time!

Sometimes the file that stores toolbar status and window sizes becomes corrupted. You can rename the file to return to the default toolbar status and window sizing to see whether that cures it.
Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using any of these:
- "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
- Help menu > Troubleshooting Information
- type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button. This should open your settings file in Windows Explorer.
Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit, either:
- "3-bar" menu button > "power" button
- File menu > Exit
Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename localstore.rdf to something like localstore.old
Start Firefox back up again. Any improvement in the window size/resizability?

1. Did exactly as you wrote - and I have to report that there is no change... Well, on re-opening FF after the change, it was very briefly "normal", that is, showing the task bar, but the second tab I opened was with task bar covered, and when going back to first tab a few seconds later, it also had the task bar covered. So, ...
2. Also, I have noticed, that is BEFORE making the suggested change, that it is not only a problem in FF but seems general, here 2 examples:
a. When viewing photos in Windows Media Player, the control buttons are all but lost behind the normal task bar, as if the whole screen is slightly deeper now,
b. When browsing say a Word Pad file on my own hard disk, the "down" arrow at extreme right is all but invisible behind the normal task bar, showing just the top millimetre,
c. Generally, in FF screen is showing IN FRONT of the task bar, outside FF showing BEHIND. No idea what the problem is!
3. Just had an idea: Shall try browsing with IE and see what happens there. Anything interesting I will report here.
4. Shall downgrade my W7 Starter to XP Pro SP3 shortly - I have a feeling that might solve the problem... Just a hunch... Might do that downgrade sooner now!!!

FYI: Just tried browsing via IE and there is no problems there at all.
Is the Taskbar set to be always visible?
As an alternative you can try to un-maximize the Firefox window and resize the window manually to make it fit with the Windows Taskbar visible. Try to close Firefox with that setting and check what happens after restarting.
You can also check the Firefox desktop shortcut to see how Firefox is started.

I am afraid that you are talking beyond my level of knowledge here - I was a freelance software writer for many years on IBM mainframes but retired way back in 1988! These days my computer is simply a tool which must work, and, when there is a problem, in truth it does not even interest me why or what!
I shall have the long postponed OS downgrade from W7 Starter to XP Pro SP3 done this coming week, plus a general clean-up, and I have a feeling that will sort out the problem... Or maybe not...
