Side window showing all mail folders and main window showing line by line list of emails in a specific folder have disappeared. Now main window shows body of an individual email, and at the top of the main window a series of horizontal tabs showing emails currently in the folder. Layout options in view menu are all greyed out, so i cant change the view back to folder payne which i assume is the traditional format.

You simply have too many emails open in tabs and so the first tab which holds the Inbox has gone to far left.

re :Layout options in view menu are all greyed out, You cannot change the 'View' if you are not in a folder but are viewing an opened email in a tab.

You should see a < on far left of tabs indicating there are more hidden. Clicking on that < will reveal them. The furtherest on left will hold the last selected folder and show Folder Pane.

BUT....I suggest you close the opened emails as it is causing you some confusion. re;at the top of the main window a series of horizontal tabs showing emails currently in the folder. Right click on a tab and select 'Close Other tabs' Then close the last opened email or click on the first tab which will be a folder. This will then show the Folder pane again.
