I receive an email from Outlook with attachments but when I forward it the attachments are lost.

One particular person sends attachments which I can open fine but I can't forward them unless I store them and re-attach. The attachments have "size unknown" label in the email.

A friend of mine who get the same emails from the same sender doesn't get the attachments at all. Her ISP gives "images blocked for your protection".

Can the sender do anything to fix this? All other mail and attachment work fine.

In 'Tools' > 'Options' > 'Composition' > 'General' tab

select: Forward messages 'Inline'

click on OK

Did you have this setting?

What sort of attachment are you talking about? Is it winmail.dat or jpg or .doc etc

If the outlook user is sending winmail.dat attachments, the info at the following link tells you how to see if they are TNEF attachments.

If the sender is using "Outlook Rich Text Format", it may use TNEF. When it sends in "HTML" or "Plain Text", it uses standard, compatible formats. The link also gives instructions on how to change settings in Outlook so that Outlook does not send using TNEF type, but instead uses standard format.

Send link to friend and ask them to read it.

I already had it set to forward messages "Inline". All other attachments forward ok. It's just one person that sends the problem messages.

They are either .doc or .pdf

I can forward them ok in apple mail on my iMac. I don't see the attachments at all on my iPad.

I have just searched on internet and there does seem to be much discussion on issues with attachments on ipad.

If you see the same as discussed in this link, then it may be that the sender is has not set up to send "HTML" or "Plain Text".

Make sure you have actually downloaded the full message, not just the headers, then see if attachment is there.

It seems that this might be a known problem with Outlook when using signatures with RTF content. The Microsoft knowledge base has several items about it. I need to get my friend to try changing her signature and see if that works.

RTF = Microsoft proprietary and has no place in email. Email is HTML and Text.

Contact the sender and ask them to disable any RTF in their mail and point them to this http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook-help/recipients-receive-a-winmail-dat-attachment-HA010153018.aspx..

The best solution is don't use Outlook.
