Firefox Won't Start Other Than in Safe Mode

more options

My inlaws use Firefox on their windows 7 pc but a few days ago it stopped working. I've tried all the trouble shooting methods I can find - disable hardware acceleration (there are no enabled extensions), re-installed firefix, reset firefox - but the only thing that works is to use it when windows is in safe mode.

When I try and run Firefox in normal mode the spinning icon appears for a few seconds and then nothing. Firefox doesn't even start and then crash, nothing at all happens.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I might get some details of what is causing the issue or any other resolutions I could try that?

thanks Neil

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Thanks for the reply.

I've run anti-virus programs and nothing was found.

You do have old graphic drivers, have you checked for updates to them? See below.

I've updated the drivers but Firefox still isn't working.

Hi Waka_Flocka_Flame,

Thanks for your help with this.

The issue isn’t malware as there doesn’t appear to be any. I’ve read through the trouble shooting notes and the only section that seems to apply was that of corrupt profile settings. I created a new profile but that didn’t resolve the issue.

Any more suggestions? Is there are any way that I can get a log of what is causing the issue as that may provide some more detail as to what is causing the error?

Thanks Neil

Apologies for the delay in replying but, yes, it was the anti-virus software.
