Hi,

How do I set Firefox to always save a photo as a Jpeg then right clicking to "Save As" when I wish to copy a photo from a web page please? I have Windows XP.

Thank you in advance.

What you are doing is trying to save format ABC as format XYZ. Some programs can do that, others can't. Best way is to save as however, then get a viewer that can display or edit the file. Then you can change the format to whatever you want.

That's a tedious solution I was hoping to avoid.

On Internet Explorer when "Saving Image As" it allows selection of various file types. Is there really no way to set up Firefox to do that?

Thank you for your previous reply.

Where do you encounter this problem? Usually Firefox will adopt the file name used by the site, which should have the appropriate extension (.jpg, .gif, .png) for the file format. However, there are sites where the image is served by a script and has the script extension (.php, .aspx, .jsp). In that case, if the page hasn't provided a useful file name, you probably need to correct the extension by hand. Unless there's an add-on to do it...

Hi,

Thank you for your reply. I apologise for the delay in responding.

When I select Save-Image-As:

I am able to decide a location where to place the file when downloaded. Then there's a drop down box (Save As Type) where the options are: a) Serif PhotoPlus Picture d) All files

I used to be able to select from a much longer list of options including jpeg when I used Internet Explorer.

How can I save as a jpeg when it's no longer listed please?

The drop-down is a filter to show you what is in the folder. It doesn't affect the format of the file you save. Just make sure the name you choose ends with .jpg so it can easily be opened in the correct program(s).
