Does the link contain a hash (# followed by text)? A hash directs Firefox to jump to a location in the page, for example:

Firefox calculates the location for a hash before all of the images/videos load, so sometimes the location ends up being inaccurate.

Years ago there was a problem on an Intuit site (maybe TurboTax?) where the pages always scrolled to the bottom. I filed a bug for that but I've lost track of what caused it and it didn't seem to be a pattern on other sites.

For me, one of two things happens:

(1) Restricting certain scripts from running in the page

The URL goes to the last comment. The hash instructs Firefox to look for:

comment-4636477

And right above the last comment is that element:

<a id="comment-4636477"></a>

So it seems like the link either is a "latest comment" link or "first unread comment" link rather than a link to the thread from the beginning (they are on page 97 already?!).

(2) Allowing more scripts to run in the page

Firefox ends up in a random place in the page, in some cases I suspect due to late-loading image. I have to click in the address bar and press Enter to reposition at the last comment.

There is a workaround for that, which was intended to address a different problem with late-loading content. You can experiment and see which behavior you find less annoying for the sites you use. However, you need to make the change through the back door:

(A) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

More info on about:config: Configuration Editor for Firefox. The moderators would like us to remind you that changes made through this back door aren't fully supported and aren't guaranteed to continue working in the future. Since we have had this setting for a long time, I feel comfortable mentioning it.

(B) In the search box in the page, type or paste layout.css.scroll-anchoring.enabled and pause while the list is filtered

(C) Double-click the preference to switch the value from true to false

Unfortunately makes no difference as each time you go to the next page it just keeps skipping to the bottom

WTF is this site doing when it goes to another page?! I'm sorry, I don't have any more time to sort out what this weird design is doing. Maybe you can mention it to them.

Hi. Disabling an adblocker (StopAll ads) seems to have resolved the issue
