All,

I have five tabs that open by default in Firefox. If I, say, navigate many pages away from "home" on one tab, how can I easily return to that tab's "home" location. Using "ALT-Home", as I have in other browsers, opens a whole new batch of my home tabs.

That is a Windows O/S operation and not a browser option AFAIK. Alt-tab just moves around windows screen opened windows task.

OK, so what's ean easy way to go back to the "home" URL on only one tab?

Unless there is somekinda addon to do this your choices are to scroll down the tabs to the left to get to the homepage. AFAIK

Or bookmark those others so you open them when you need them less clutter browser will be easy to navigate.

If you press the 'Home' icon, these should come up.
