I've said it in other threads, but I've already done that. In fact, I run multiple anti-malware and anti-virus programs every day. This is not the result of malware or viruses.

EDIT: This is weird. I've started getting crashes/hangs just navigating back to my homepage (yahoo.com).

BTW, in my Troubleshooting Information, what does this mean in the "WebGL2 Renderer" category?

The advantage of using the Developer Edition is that you can mess around with that and it does not interfere with your ordinary use of Firefox. As long as we can get Firefox crash and hang free what we need to do is make one change at a time to see what is causing the hangs and crashes, We may well need to avoid multi process Firefox because if you get crashes in multi process Firefox that may be masking the real problems that you get in single process which I believe you do not like using because it crawls. We need to be aware that something may be corrupting your profiles or your program files.

Looks like the most recent crash was Release in Multi Process Mode again. As we seem to be confirming Firefox works well without crashing or hangs in some configurations I think it best to make small changes from such a configuration when trying to troubleshoot and eliminate these problems. Multiple AV. I am sure it has been mentioned previously using multiple adblockers and especially multiple AV may cause issues. We suggest multiple sequential scans as a check. We do not suggest having multiple AV And multiple adblockers and script blockers active.

Did Rachel get back to you? I'm having the exact same problem. In fact, the recent version upgrade produced a few more crashes on average.

Rachel did not get back to me. Rachel has a lot of other things to do. Not sure I received matching set of files:

• profiler output .json File
• Set of Firefox Profile files
• Crash ID for crash when getting hangs in:
  • Windows & Firefox safe mode
  • with no flashplayer active and not using Facebook (Facebook can get very intensive and may be known to cause some issues)
  • Single process mode

I've posted two out of three of those things (profiler outputs and crash IDs). Here is the set of Firefox profile files for the profile I'm using when I'm getting these crashes:

Thanks for that. I am hoping for a matched set of files, the profile, the crash ID and the profiler output. The profiler output should be a file with the file extension .json. Maybe I overlooked it but I did not see one of your onedrive links rthat had that important .json file in it.

Do you think you could try again and post me a link again that is to such a matched set of files. I am hoping to talk to Rachel later today and will see if I can bring this subject up, but as I said Rachel is probably very busy with more important things right now due to the ongoing issues with the forum software and how it is used.

I've posted four or five .json files. I simply renamed them to something memorable for me for the filename. I imagine whichever one I last posted was the one with this profile, but you could go back through this post to make sure.

BTW, when I use the crash reporter manually, I get crashes with the title:

"ntdll.dll@0x63679"

What does this mean? It's different than when I got into about:crashes and submit the report that way.

I'm in windows safe mode, firefox safe mode with add-ons disabled in Developer Edition. Trying to replicate a freeze, but can't. I was trying to do it on Hollywoodlife.com, as it's a site that has given me crashes in my regular profile in regular mode. That one drive link gives me something that tries to open as an octet stream. It will not import in to the performance tool even if renamed as a dot.json file.

That one I can read, however personally I am only interested in profiler output obtained in a test configuration. Even then I would have to try to get someone else to interpret the results. That is the sort of file I was hoping for, when renamed as a .json it does load and shows performance dropping to 3fps.

Ignore the nttdl.dll & kernelbase.dl issues

Those are low level Windows processes. They will be involved in many crashes including crashes where FlashPlayer is involved.

Unless you consider you may have a malware issue ignore that the .dll modules have a red highlight. Especially on a core Windows .dll - as long as the file is in the correct location and updated it should be fine.

I do not have a Windows 7 machine to hand at present to check but the most likely reason for the lack of a debug symbol is simply that Windows has updated and the debug symbols have not caught up properly yet. I know if I run what is expected to be a good genuine version of Windows and crash Firefox I will often see such red highlights on core Windows modules.

If a particular crash signature is common and affecting many Firefox users it will get picked up in triaging and hopefully fixed quickly.

That crash signature including [@ IPCError-browser | ShutDownKill ] may well be related partly to use of Multi Process Firefox and it removes added complications if you test in single process mode first and get that sorted out.

Comment by John99 I added a reply above by way of editing my last post. Personally I would ignore the red modules and for now the crashes in Multi Process Firefox. I doubt it will help you with your current issues.

I noticed a few minutes ago on my most recent crash that it happened when I had three windows open on Freep.com, a newspaper, where each of the articles had an autoplay video (really annoying). I waited until each video loaded to pause/stop them. Anyway, as soon as I closed out of one is when I get the interminable hang. I had to use the external crash reporter, and got this associated crash report.

Also, since I think this is related, I often have the problem of doing an image search in Yahoo searches, as all of the image thumbails don't load. This seems to happen randomly.

It's disabled by default. Telemetry is unchecked.

Some suggestions:

Try to increase dom.ipc.tabs.shutdownTimeoutSecs to about 30 or so on about:config.

Try to disable the thumbnails on the about:newtab page.

Create a new Boolean pref browser.pagethumbnails.capturing_disabled on the about:config page and set the value to true to disable thumbnails on the about:newtab page.

How would I do the last one, and how might that relate to the problems I'm having?

I've seen in some bug reports that the thumbnails use a separate content process to visit websites periodically to visit a website and update thumbnails. This is done regardless of whether multi-process is enabled or not, so this might be a case to investigate when this crash still happens with multi-process disabled.

Unfortunately, no change. I got these two most recent crashes within a minute of each other. Not even sure how it happened. One of them is a crash report I've never gotten before (shutdown hang):

Try to do a clean reinstall of the current Firefox release and delete the Firefox program folder before installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.

If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows Registry and settings in security software.

• do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall the current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

Your personal data like bookmarks is stored in the Firefox profile folder, so you won't lose personal data when you uninstall and reinstall or update Firefox, but make sure NOT to remove personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.

If you keep having problems then create a new profile to test if your current profile is causing the problem.

You can run Firefox for a while in Windows Safe Mode with network support.

Through the numerous other testing I've done (even in this thread, alone), it's clear it's not profile related as I've used brand new profiles and still get the hang. What we narrowed it down to is possibly something in Windows affecting Firefox, but no one can seem to figure this out.

The only way I was able to get no hangs was to operate BOTH Windows and Firefox in Safe Mode, which is not something I'm willing to do on a regular basis. Are there any Windows programs known to interefere with Firefox and cause constant crashes?
