Firefox updated to version 32.0 yesterday 9/2/2014 (or maybe Monday) and now when I close and reopen the browser the last page I was on appears, not my home page. I've checked the setting in the Options tool (even changed them and then changed them back). The Firefox process appears to close fine when I exit the browser and opens with no error messages when Firefox is restarted.

hello, can you try the following: go to the firefox menu ≡ > help ? > troubleshooting information > profile folder - "show folder", then a new window will open up. in this window look out for a file named user.js (it might be used to overwrite your custom settings). in case it is present , delete or rename this file and restart firefox afterwards.
