This problem started two weeks ago.

System:

Windows XP Latest Firefox browser

When I select a Netflix movie, it comes up as a blank screen.

Previously I had been using Firefox and Netflix for years without any problems.

I have uninstalled an reinstalled both Silverlight and Firefox several times and cannot get it to work.

The only browser I can use for Netflix right now on my XP system is IE.

I checked PlugIns and yes Silverlight is set to "Always Activate"

I completely cleared the Cache and all cookies.

Did not fix.

However, I did some more checking and I noticed there was a program in my Add/Remove Programs called "Netflix Movie VIewer". I removed it and then Firefox started working with Netflix !

Can you confirm that Silverlight is set to "Always Activate" on the Add-ons page?

You can open that using either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Plugins. Then scroll down and find Silverlight.

Assuming that checks out, then more generally...

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache

Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.

Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced

On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:

  • right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"

In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

Solution no longer works. The "movie viewer" with that name or anything like it doesn't exist . Netflix tech support doesn't help. It's interesting that MS IE works just fine with MS Silverlight and Netflix..

What does work is the ShouldIRemoveit program. http://www.shouldiremoveit.com/Netflix-Movie-Viewer-13003-program.aspx

I installed and ran it and removed the top recent orange rated new programs. Netflix works fine afterwards. http://www.shouldiremoveit.com/Netflix-Movie-Viewer-13003-program.aspx Thanks Jabailo

I got a black screen everytime I wanted to watch netflix.

This was my problem all along:

scorpion saver adware by adpeak

I soon as I uninstalled this malware, netflix was open, no more black screen :)

Should I remove it program helped me to uninstall it
