The list of the contents of an email account, normally presented as a static vertical list, instead scrolls across the top of the screen, L to R, wasting an amazing amount of time until you get to, for example, the 'Inbox' , its selection finally presenting the usual vertical listing.

How can I get rid of this 'feature'?

You can get rid of the feature by closing your tabs once your done reading the mail in them. For now right click a tab and select close all other tabs.

For my druthers, just the 'Inbox' tab would be sufficient.

Then get in the habit of closing tabs when you finish reading an email. Or better yet stop opening the message in a tab and read them in the Message Pane. Pressing F8 toggles the message pane on and off.
