How does the Awesome Bar bring up suggestions and how can I increase them?

To quote from the "Search the Web" section of the Awesome Bar article (http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/awesome-bar-find-your-bookmarks-history-and-tabs): If the location bar doesn't come up with the result you want (or any results), it just means that it isn't in your history, bookmarks or tags.

However, I am having trouble receiving a lot of suggestions for what I type into the bar and it seems to change if I type "too many characters." As examples (quotes included below for clarity, weren't used in actual typing/searches), I wanted to use the bar to find a radio station (WBGN - The Ticket 1340). One suggestion comes up after "The Ticket" but as soon as I type the number "1," the suggestion goes away. Typing "Facebook" brings up only five results when I have my maxRichResults setting is on 12. Also, my history shows 111 results in the past month for "jfk" due to looking up different stories and pictures about the John F. Kennedy assassination. When I type "jfk" in the Awesome Bar, NOTHING shows up.

I cannot say for sure when I first noticed these types of patterns, but it has been within the last couple of weeks. I installed Mozilla Firefox 25.0.1 (x86 en-US) two weeks ago if that makes a difference. All settings including "browser.urlbar" within the title are currently set to their defaults as well.

Thanks for your help!

Could you check for non-default settings for urlbar and frecency preferences?

In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.

(1) In the search box above the list, type or paste urlb and pause while the list is filtered. Anything unusual (non-default settings should be bolded)? Edit: I missed the part of your question referring to these preferences.

(2) In the search box above the list, replace "urlb" with frec and pause while the list is filtered. Anything unusual (non-default settings should be bolded)?

Have you conducted the same comparison testing in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to bypass interference by extensions (and some custom settings). More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using

Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset)

Any difference?

Checked in about:config with urlb and frec and all results are coming up under "Default" status.

I have also double checked my location bar examples from the original post in normal mode and under Safe Mode and get the same behavior either way.
