recently one of my addons (flash video downloader) has been acting up. it doesn't remember the check boxes for file associaion and such. this started to happen at the 7/11 update. at first i thought the addon itself was the problem and patiantly waited for the devs to see and fix it. after awhile, when it didn't get fixed, i installeed it on a different computer where i never installed it before and it worked like a charm. i tried removing the addon and than reinstalling it but it didn't work. i know that the profile folder keeps various data on addons but i don't know where can i find all the relevant data and how to clear it.

please help

I don't use that extension, but it's very common for settings to be stored in the prefs.js and be listed in the about:config preferences editor. Have you tried clearing those? Typically they will be grouped together and you can right-click and press R to reset on each one to clear it.

Otherwise... there could be a file someone in the profile folder or on disk. You'd have to research this particular extension.

i already tried that. it was stored under artursomething. i deleted the relevant folder and removed all mentions of it in both pref.js and about:config but still the problem presisted. i even made sure beforehand that the object was gone even after i close firefox since pref.js gets rewritten.

Newer extensions may use storage locations here, but it's not obvious the safest way to clean them:

  • [profile folder]\browser-extension-data
  • [profile folder]\storage\default (start with moz-extension)

You can see the internal ID of an extension on the Troubleshooting Information page (Help menu, or about:support), but the moz-extension folder names are... puzzling.

i couldn't recognize there anything that isn't an irrelevant extension... again, the name of the extension is flash video downloader, i got it at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/flash-video-downloader/ and i when i check the boxes it appears to be checked but when i check later they return to be unchecked.
