This is such a nuisance. I must close the browser each time to change sites. I even reloaded windows 10 as a reset and re-downloaded firefox.

Nothing seems to help.

BehindTheOverlay {web link} One click to close any overlay popup on any website. Have you ever been to a website that displays an overlay and masks the content with a transparent background before seeing its content ? This extension allows you to close easily those overlays.

What search site are you using? Could you copy/paste the address of the problem page from the address bar into a reply post?

I suspect whatever is supposed to be displayed on the overlay is being blocked by one of your ad blockers. Sometimes an ad blocker will hide the "close" button and leave the overlay, due to a slight fault in the way the ad is identified in the HTML of the page. You may need to try making an exception to the blocking to see what is going on there.

You may be able to post it on an image hosting site like imgur or snaggy and give us a link to view it there if nothing else works.
