Hi - just had an automatic update to thunderbird (45.1.1) and it seems to have lost all previous emails except for the last two days! for one (only) of my email address's! - I need to look back through these emails; can anyone help me get them back please? - thanks.

I have the same problem but not as severe, it is only very old mails that got deleted, but it now keeps telling me that my inbox is full and wont download any more mail to it!

hi jon_laws - thanks for your reply. I've had your 'Inbox full' problem before and I solved it this way (it's usually caused by the Inbox file being too big - i.e. when it gets to around 4GB!) (note: (just for interest) emptying the Inbox by deleting or moving all emails doesn't reduce the Inbox file size! not sure why - haven't seen any explanation for this). First, copy all email already in your Inbox to another folder (and call it something like 'Archive'). Find where your Inbox file is located (go to 'Options' then 'Accounts' and select 'Server Settings' for your problem email address Inbox); look for 'Local Directory' at the bottom of the pane and copy all of the long address (should start something like: C:\users\...) - paste this into an Explorer address box and press enter - you should now see the 'full' Inbox file; if it's around 3 to 4GB then this is probably your problem - if it's less than 3GB it may be corrupt and so doing the following might help anyway - probably worth a try; you can always reverse the steps below to get back to where you are now. With Thunderbird closed (important) rename the 'full' Inbox file (I add 'old' to the file name so it becomes: 'Inboxold' (without the parenthesis!) but anything will do as long as you can recognise it if you need to in future). When you next open Thunderbird it won't be able to find the file 'Inbox' so it will make a new empty one automatically. Copy the email you copied to archive folder earlier back to the new empty Inbox and then try downloading new email. This has worked for me in the past on several different machines. Hope it works for you.
