When you open, or even just select, a message with a *.gpx file attached, then Thunderbird goes very slow for about 20 to 30 seconds. After this the E-mail does open correctly.

Thunderbird : 38.2 ( but similar in previous versions ) Headers : just simple Message text : 1 normal character line Attachment : about 1 kb text file, XML formatted.

have you tried without email scanning in your anti virus?

Thanks for the thought, just to check, I've tried with AV turned off, same symptom.

If anyone would like, I can forward a sample *.gpx file to you.
