Hello, I use Thunderbird 31.6.0 on my Linux Mint 17. I tried to follow the instructions that are on this web site for installing new dictionaries spell checkers but it does not work. It says that it's not available for my platform. However on my Windows computer it says that this version is not supported. In comments of that plug in someone explained workaround. You should download the add-on, rename extension to .zip, unpack it and copy the unpacked files to C:/Program Files/Mozilla Thunderbird/dictionaries. I did this and it worked!

Is there any way to do similar trick with Thunderbird for Linux Mint?

I wanted to do the same trick but I didn't know where is the dictionaries folder in Linux. I did some googling and figure it out. So here is the way to do it:

1. Go to here https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/%D1%81%D1%80%D0%BF%D1%81%D0%BA%D0%B8-%D1%80%D0%B5%D1%87%D0%BD%D0%B8%D0%BA-serbian-dictiona/

2. right click> Save Link As 3. you will get some .xpi file, rename the file and make sure to make it .zip 4. unzip the file 5. in this new folder that you get open folder dictionaries, and copy all the files that you have there 6. open your file manager and go to /usr/lib/firefox/dictionaries 7. paste there the files you just coped, you will need root premison to do it so right click in the window> open as root and then paste it

That's it, you will have dictionaries for Firefox and Thunderbird.

Which instructions did you follow? Please provide a link What exactly are you trying to install? Please provide a link. What exact error do you get?

I tried this tutorial https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-install-and-use-another-language-dictionary-th or As I said, when I use Thunderbird on my Linux machine and go tothis address or this (there are two dictionaries for Serbian) it tells me "Not available for your platform".

However when I use my Windows, and go to the same links it tells me something like "this add-on is not supported for your version of Thunderbird." First comment on this add-on is explaining how to do work around. Solution is this: download the add-on, rename the extension to .zip, unzip it and copy and paste unzipped files to C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\dictionaries. I did it and it worked.

My question is there similar work around for Linux version? Where should be the "dictionaries" folder in Linux Mint? Or is there any other solution to install Serbian dictionary in Thunderbird in Linux Mint?

From the links you provided, one dictionary hasn't been updated for ages, and it isn't compatible with recent versions of Firefox or Thunderbird. The other one doesn't seem to be available for Linux installations. I'm not sure why there would be a platform dependency for dictionaries. I'd suggest you contact the dictionary author.

Well nice observation but that's all I already know. So is there someone that can help me? it's hard to find the original creator because link to his web site on his profile page is broken.

Why don't you try the same workaround as for the Windows version? Locate the Thunderbird installation directory and extract the .xpi in the 'dictionaries' sub-directory.
