Deleting from Thunderbird did not delete from Yahoo
Deleting from my Thunderbird account did not delete the message from my Yahoo account.

That means the message is removed from the server immediately when you open it in Thunderbird. Does this solve your problem?

There is no such thing as a Thunderbird account. If you delete messages in Thunderbird, you delete them in your Yahoo account. What is your account type - POP or IMAP?
My Yahoo account type is POP. When I delete messages using Thunderbird they are not deleted in my Yahoo account.
Open Account Settings - Server Settings. Is 'Leave messages on server' checked? If so, is anything checked underneath that?
Thanks for the input. 'Leave messages on server' is checked also 'For a most 14 days' and 'Until I delete' then are checked. I unchecked 'Leave messages on server' and then when I restarted Thunderbird all the messages on Yahoo had been placed in the Yahoo trash folder.
