Firefox updated and all the tabs came up blank.
Firefox updated without my permission--which is to say that I was working on the computer, and Firefox announced that it was updating and restarted.
At the time I had a large number of tabs open for the research I was working on. When Firefox restarted, all of my tabs were open, but they were all open as "New Tab" instead of having the webpages I had opened. I have not been able to figure out how to get them back.

If you haven't closed and restarted Firefox yet then make a backup copy of the sessionstore files (sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak) in the Firefox profile folder.
You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:
- Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
You can try to restore a previous version of the sessionstore.js file if you have one from a date that may have those lost tabs.
- Right-click: Properties > Previous Versions
